Position Vacant

Dr John East

Angela Waterfall

  • Angela East has enjoyed a long career as a performing cellist and early music specialist. She still performs worldwide with the ensemble Red Priest of which she is a founding member.

She has been interested in her ancestry for many years, partly because her parents, who suffered greatly in the second World War, told her very little about their background and in fact knew very little themselves.

She now has over a thousand relatives in her tree but the vast majority of those are through marriages, since most of the Easts in her family had only daughters.

  • Dr John East MBE. John is a retired Consultant Physician, having spent 54 years in practice, half in the Army and half as a civilian. He has been interested in his family history for many years and perhaps now will have the time to get down to some proper research and extend his understanding of his ancestry.

  • Amanda has been interested in family history since her teens when her grandmother told her about ancestral family from the Bahamas.

She has built up a number of Ancestry trees for herself and friends. She was the journal editor of a number of issues between 2001 & 2005 before rejoining the committee as journal editor again at the AGM in 2013.

She is always busy working or volunteering but enjoys reading any articles submitted for publication in Points East!

  • Jane is a recently retired School Business Manager, who started looking into the East family ancestry when Covid hit and she had more time at home. Born Jane East and living in Hampshire, only 2 miles from the East Bros Sawmills in West Dean, where her father, brother and a myriad of other family members have worked and still work, she has many relatives in the local area. Since joining the EFHS in 2022 and the Committee in 2023, Jane says she has loved meeting other ‘East family’ members and hearing so many fascinating stories about her ancestors and where they came from and she is really looking forward to discovering many more family members and stories!

  • My mother was an East, born in east London. I knew about some of her cousins but it has been fascinating to delve back in time and find her ancestors. London is densely populated so it has been difficult to go back too far. I have started to take day trips into London to look at churches where relatives were baptised etc.

My grandfather lived with us and spoke of many places in east London and now I have found out who lived where and when.

I only started my family history search during the Covid pandemic and now I am hooked.
